2025 Kia Sorento

Hybrid Powertrain Specifications

Both trims in this year’s Sorento Plug-in Hybrid lineup proudly house a full parallel hybrid system, powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an AC synchronous permanent-magnet electric motor. The Sorento Hybrid’s double overhead-camshaft valvetrain includes four valves per cylinder, and the internal-combustion engine features continuously variable valve timing. Shifting is effortless thanks to the standard rotary-dial shifter, and Drive Mode Select offers Eco, Comfort, Smart, Sport, and Snow modes.

The gas engine produces 177 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motor generates 91 horsepower and 224 lb-ft of torque, combining for a total of 261 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Both models are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive with a center-locking differential and torque vectoring, granting the Kia superior road grip and optimal handling across various terrains.

The 2025 Sorento Hybrid’s Futuristic Technology

Stability and Traction Programs

The Kia Sorento Hybrid’s anti-lock braking system (ABS) features four-wheel disc brakes, and the onboard Vehicle Stability Management program helps maintain the SUV’s intended direction during low-traction or emergency maneuvers. Electronic Stability Control comes standard on both trims, monitoring driving conditions and selectively braking individual wheels to optimize stability.

With Hill-Start Assist Control and Downhill Brake Control, your Kia boasts ample stability and control, whether you’re ascending or descending a slope. Hill-Start Assist Control prevents rollback when the SUV is stopped on a hill by keeping the brakes engaged for two seconds, giving you time to switch to the gas pedal. Downhill Brake Control automatically engages the Kia’s ABS to prevent uncontrolled acceleration during your descent, allowing you to focus on steering.

Safety Tech

The lineup’s Blind-Spot Collision system includes an additional feature that helps you safely exit your Kia from a parallel parking spot. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist features junction turning detection for oncoming vehicles at intersections, as well as cyclist and pedestrian detection. The SX Prestige trim’s Forward Collision system also includes detection for direct oncoming, lane-change oncoming, lane-change side, and evasive steering assist, offering comprehensive safety in all driving situations.

Both trims come standard with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Park Distance Warning software for the front and rear, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping and Following Assists, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and Safe Exit Assist.
